My Pet
He may not be a show dog,
He's never won a prize,
But I'd pass up blue ribbons
For the love in those brown eyes.
The famous dogs of Ireland
In days of long ago
Like brave Gelert, who saved a child,
Had never seen a show,
But what they had of value
Was the heart that beats within
Each true descendant of those sires,
That thing beneath the skin
That stamps an Irish Wolfhound
Be he champion or pet,
The heritage, that down the years,
These dogs do not forget.
It doesn't really matter
If he never scores a win,
For the thing that makes a wolfhound
Is what lies beneath the skin.
Now I lay me down to sleep....
Now I
lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep..
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth-
I'm a puppy, don't you see?
For the morning's here
and it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night!

Walking in a Doggie Wonderland
Dog tags
ring, are you listening'?
In the lane, snow is glistening'.
It's yellow, NOT white I've been there tonight,
Marking up my winter wonderland
Smell that tree? That's my fragrance.
It's a sign for wandering vagrants;
"Avoid where I pee, it's MY pro-per-ty!
Marked up as my winter wonderland."
In the meadow dad will build a snowman,
following the classical design.
Then I'll lift my leg and let it go Man,
So all the world will know that it's
mine-mine-mine!
Straight from me to the fence post,
flows my natural incense boast;
"Stay off my TURF, this small piece of earth,
I marked it as my winter wonderland."

Death of a Hound
The great heart cracks;
The mighty frame
In chill of death has turned to stone.
With silence in the empty halls
We sit alone,
Too numb to weep, too desolate
For tears or pain-releasing sigh.
A puppy stumbles up to us---
Kings do not die!
(William J. Dammarell)
A visitor
These are our dogs
This is their home
from which we hope
they'll never roam
They're faithful
friends
we love them best.
This is their home
you are a guest
If dogs to you
are just a peeve
Then by all means
feel free to leave
