Our family has admired the  Irish wolfhound for many years, and are now lucky enough to be the proud parents of two magnificent hounds (Balin and Kili).  We made our decision to breed under the guidance and expert knowledge of our breeder.

Our puppies will be carefully bred and will receive the benefits of an informed, planned, well-thought-out breeding.  Their mother will receive the utmost care during her pregnancy, and the puppies will receive the same excellent care after their birth, including proper nutrition and socialization.

We are not breeding for personal gain or commercial exploitation of the breed, far from it; we are only interested in helping to preserve this magnificent breed.  No one can guarantee that your  Irish wolfhound will never have any health problems.  BUT there is much you can do to stack the odds in his or her favor, and it begins with your choice of breeder.

You need to be realistic in your expectations and your situation.  The  Irish wolfhound is not a breed for everyone.  Even if you love the breed dearly, it may not fit your lifestyle, maybe just now, maybe never.  For instance, we had admired the breed for many years, and had longed for one for just as long, but it was only over the last few years that we were in a position to seriously consider one.

If you decide you would like to be considered for one of our puppies, be aware that you will be asked many, many questions about you, your family, your situation and lifestyle.

You will feel like you are being interrogated, basically you will be.  If you have ever adopted a child you will have some idea of what to expect.  This was exactly our experience when first introduced to Dixie Hirsch of Sunstag (Reg) Irish Wolfhounds.    SUNSTAG

It took us long hours of discussion, with many questions from both sides.  Dixie Hirsch did a great job in determining that an  Irish wolfhound was right for us, and in choosing the right puppy for us and our lifestyle, along with an honest appraisal of cost management, as well as the physical, mental and nutritional needs.  So please remember, we will be following her lead as we want to ensure that our puppies only go to simply the best, loving homes.  They will be like our own children, need we say more.

And if you decide that we are not for you, please, please, please!  Be an educated buyer!!!  Not only for your sake, but for the sake of the puppy and the breed in general.  An educated buyer will NOT purchase an Irish wolfhound puppy from a pet shop or from an irresponsible breeder.  If irresponsible breeders have no market, they will stop producing   Irish Wolfhounds.

We ALL have to help the battle to prevent puppy milling.

And finally, before we introduce you to mom and dad, we trust you will keep us informed about the development of your puppy (hopefully on a weekly or monthly basis), you would be expected to contact us immediately upon any health problems, physical abnormalities, and/or death of the dog.  The contract of sale would also stipulate that we would be notified of any plan on your part to resell or otherwise dispose of the puppy.   This stipulation will also require the buyer to either return the dog to the breeder, or place it with new owners who have been approved by the breeder.  We have always stayed in touch with our breeder, on a weekly basis.  Sunstag (Reg) Irish Wolfhounds have bred a high standard of these majestic creatures for many, many years and have been a wonderful source of information and guidance in every aspect of raising and living with an Irish Wolfhound over the years, and continues to be so. contract.PDF  (See Contract for Neuter/Spay)
